Deputy Athletic Director

The Deputy Director will work closely with the Director of Athletics to shape and execute the department's vision, policies, and long-term goals. They will lead critical initiatives that ensure the department's administrative, operational, and competitive success is aligned with emerging best practices and contributes to a culture of inclusive excellence. The Deputy Director will supervise coaches and assigned sport programs and oversee assigned departmental functions. They will be active and visible in the department, at games and competitions, and on campus, leading the department in the absence of the Director. The Deputy Director will play a significant role in contributing to the overall mission of Wentworth Institute of Technology, particularly in enhancing the student-athlete experience and shaping the future of the Department of Athletics.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

· Collaborate closely with the Director of Athletics in assessing Athletics' ongoing operational, fiscal, personnel, and facility needs.

· Co-lead developing and implementing a department strategic plan that aligns with the institution's mission and long-term objectives.

· With the Director, design and implement departmental supervisory practices and staff development programs that promote leadership excellence across the department.

· Serve as a senior member of the Athletic Administrators team and on other campus working groups or committees as needed.

Operational Management:

· Support effective day-to-day operations of the department, with support from fellow Athletics administrative staff, ensuring smooth and efficient function across all units.

· Lead assigned functional areas or initiatives within the department, which may include facilities management, recruitment and enrollment, student-athlete education and programming, alumni relations and engagement, etc.

· Contribute to the development and management of departmental and sport program budgets in collaboration with the Director and Assistant AD for Operations, ensuring financial stewardship and alignment with strategic priorities.

· Update and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and handbooks for student-athletes and staff, ensuring they are current and aligned with institutional standards.

· Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Supervision and Development:

· Supervise a group of head coaches and provide guidance and direction for their respective programs.

· Support the Director in fostering a culture of professional growth, inclusion, and accountability within the Athletics Administrators team.

Representation and Engagement:

· Serve as a departmental representative at significant events, such as NCAA championships, CNE and/or GNAC conference meetings, and institutional functions.

· Act as a department liaison to key campus partners, including Enrollment Management, faculty and Academic Affairs, and Advancement and External Relations, ensuring the Athletics Department is integrated into the broader campus community.

· In the Director of Athletics' absence, assume leadership responsibility for departmental matters, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree

· 5+ years of related experience in collegiate athletics administration or similarly complex organizations

· Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment

· Demonstrated ability to supervise

· Experience in strategic planning, budget management, and operational leadership

· Sound judgment, discretion, and strategic thinking

· Strong oral and written communication skills

· Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex issues

· Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

· Master’s Degree

· 8+ years of related experience in collegiate athletics administration or similarly complex organizations

· Experience as a college student-athlete and/or collegiate coach.
