Associate Director, Strategic Communications, Intercollegiate Athletics

The University of Nevada Athletics department is recruiting for an Associate Director, Strategic Communications.

The Communications staff is responsible for the Intercollegiate Athletics Department’s (ICA) publicity and external communications efforts through the department’s media services and video efforts as well as its official website. The position acts as a liaison between the coaches, student-athletes, sports programs and ICA with the local, regional and national media, fans/general public, conference personnel and National Conference Athletics Association (NCAA) officials to pitch stories and handle information requests from around the country. The incumbent works to present ICA and the University of Nevada, Reno in a positive light.

The Associate Director, Strategic Communications monitors work of the entry level Media Services staff and provides oversight of daily operations. The position serves as the primary media contact and coordinates the press box/press row operations and statistical crews for each of the assigned sports (Men's Basketball and Women's Golf).

Required Qualifications 

Master’s Degree with one year of related work experience; OR

Bachelor’s Degree with two years of related work experience; OR

Associate’s Degree with three years of related work experience; OR

High School diploma with four years of related work experience

Related Experience: Experience in media relations in a college or university athletic environment or other related communications field.

Preferred Experience

Experience with athletic department website operations (i.e., SIDEARM, Presto)

Schedule or Travel Requirements 

Requires travel to sporting events and a variable work schedule.
