DESCRIPTION

The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Coach/Boathouse Manager- Women’s Rowing. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students and is one of the University of California’s 10 campuses. UC San Diego Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence, sponsors 23 varsity sports, and is reclassifying to NCAA Division I as a member of the Big West Conference. Triton Athletics consistently ranks as one of the most successful athletic programs, ranking among the top 10 nationally in the Learfield Director’s Cup in 19 of the past 23 years. Serve as Assistant Coach/Boathouse Manager- Women’s Rowing for the NCAA Intercollegiate Athletics program. This is a vital position within the Athletics program and has a 12-month contract with full benefits. The Assistant Coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing a competitive Rowing program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student-athletes and also strives for athletic excellence. Follow athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UCSD Athletic Department and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. Assist Head Coach in all of the following: recruiting, organizing and conducting practices, preparation of scouting reports, conditioning programs, utilize video tagging software, competitive and fundraising events.

 

Assist with administrative responsibilities, including scheduling, budgets, inventory, coordination of team, professional & recruit travel and team equipment purchases. Prepare statistical analysis and reports. Assist with coordinating contest, event and tournament management, and with recruitment of student-athletes, and basic knowledge of and compliance with all NCAA regulations. The incumbent is responsible for conducting all activities in compliance with NCAA, conference and UC San Diego rules and regulations.

 

~Work schedule will be arranged with Head Coach, but often includes evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

1. A Bachelor's Degree: or an equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics, as well as to understand the needs of students balancing the requirements of academics and athletics.

 

2. Recruiting experience at a D1 level with student-athletes that are at a high-academic and high-athletic level.

 

3. Demonstrated ability to teach specified sport to individuals and the team as a whole.

 

4. Ability to follow work schedule as outlined by Head Coach and department.

 

5. Strong proven knowledge of sound principles and rules governing specified sport. Personal experience with specified sport.

 

6. Demonstrated experience in coordinating and instructing camps of specified sport.

 

7. Proven ability to use all athletic equipment and computer software programs needed to perform job duties.

 

8. Ability to utilize video tagging software to analyze critical moments in games by athletes and opponents and communicate those to the coach(es) and team.

 

9. Proven ability to provide statistical analysis and reports in regard to the specified sport. Ability to complete forms thoroughly and to keep them current.

 

10. Strong writing skills to prepare clearly understandable correspondence and reports.

 

11. Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.

 

12. Outstanding leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, students and community members.

 

13. Ability to speak before large and small groups with evident poise and enthusiasm and ability to effectively motivate team members.

 

14. Strong administrative and organizational skills, with ability to follow up and review, to ensure that no details are overlooked and that all arrangements have been made.

 

15. Ability to drive a trailer.

 

16. Ability to operate an efficient boathouse including equipment maintenance, light boat repair, spare parts re-ordering, and organization of tools and equipment storage.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

 

• A background check and DMV check required.

 

• Valid driver's license is required. Must also participate in the DMV Pull program and maintain a clean DMV record.

 

• Must maintain NCAA certified recruiter status.

 

• Must maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification.

 

• This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).

 

• This position is a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus.
