Job Title: Athletics Director
Classification: Full time, Exempt
Reports To: SBC President
Job Summary/Objective: The Director of Athletics works closely with the SBC President regarding the Athletic Department policies and procedures relating to the student-athlete's experience at Sweet Briar College. Adheres to and enforces all policies and procedures of the department and the Institution, as well as the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), and any other authorities that affect the intercollegiate athletic program.
Position Type/Expected Work Hours: Full-time, 12-month employee, varied hours including evenings and weekends.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages all athletics staff and any student-workers involved in the program and the outdoor program.
Essential Responsibilities:
Plan and implement department initiatives that align with the College's Mission and Vision.
Support student-athlete academic and athletic excellence, leadership development, and community engagement.t
Maintain the financial viability of the department
Adheres to and enforces all policies and procedures of the department and the Institution, as well as the rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), and any other authorities that affect the intercollegiate athletic program
Develop and implement short and long-term plans for department growth
Prepare and submit all required reports, including federal and NCAA reports
Foster and grow camaraderie and teamwork among all teams and team personnel
Utilizes sound teaching techniques in the preparation of meets and practices
Prepare, propose, and manage a budget
Work collaboratively within the department and other areas of our campus community.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Must adhere to the philosophy of Sweet Briar College and NCAA Division III rules
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience in administrative/coaching/participation at the collegiate level
Strong commitment to NCAA Division III philosophy
Willingness to fundraise
Ability to interact with all levels of the Sweet Briar College community
Ability to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends
Candidate must have a valid driver's license and meet the College's insurability standards
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Coaching, Education, Administration, or a similar field
Three or more years of collegiate administrative experience
Physical Demands: Moderate activity; must work effectively with student-athletes and lift to 20 lbs occasionally. Extensive periods of sitting/standing may be required.
Travel: As competition and recruiting needs dictate.
