Search Consultant
Spelman Johnson is inviting applications for the position of search consultant to lead our athletics practice. Spelman Johnson conducts executive search services for directors of athletics, conference commissioners, and head coaches for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III institutions. Spelman Johnson is a national, retained executive search firm that focuses on identifying and recruiting leaders for colleges and universities. The Position
The search consultant manages designated search assignments and is responsible for working closely with the client institution throughout the process, preparing reports, identifying the leadership needs of the position, recruiting a pool of candidates, managing candidates throughout the search, vetting candidates, and providing an outstanding level of service and expertise to the client at every phase of the search process. The search associate is expected to attend professional association meetings, participate in and manage business development activities related to athletics, and maintain active networks with a wide variety of higher education athletics professionals. The person in this position must be able to work fluidly with multiple constituencies. This position has the option of working remotely from a home office or working from the headquarters office in Easthampton, Massachusetts. The travel associated with this position is extensive.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree is preferred, and ten years of demonstrated progressive experience in planning, organizational development, and partnering within a higher education environment as well as a deep understanding of the issues related to intercollegiate athletics and the impact of athletics in an educational environment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have the ability to work independently, focus intently on details, and serve both clients and candidates with insight, professionalism, and confidentiality. Additional skills include exceptional writing abilities, strong public speaking, and critical and creative thinking. Substantive work in professional associations at the national or regional level is required. Strong technology skills are highly desirable.
