Assistant Coach – Track and Field

Position Overview:

 

Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Assistant Track & Field Coach. This position will report to the Head Track & Field Coach. The Assistant Track & Field Coach is responsible for supporting the comprehensive development of student-athletes through effective coaching, mentorship, and leadership. This position will contribute to the overall success of a competitive athletics program by providing expert guidance in training, recruitment, and student-athlete development. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.

 

Essential Duties:

 

  • Deliver high-quality skill instruction and conditioning programs aligned with the standards of a successful NCAA Division III track & field program.

  • Identify, recruit, and retain student-athletes who demonstrate both athletic talent and academic excellence to thrive at SU.

  • Actively participate in fundraising initiatives that support the goals and needs of the track & field program.

  • Ensure adherence to all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules, regulations, and policies. Serve as a positive role model and mentor, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and high ethical standards. Support classroom excellent by utilizing all available university resources in support of students.

 

 

Additional Duties:

  • Serve as an Administrator in Charge (AIC) for designated athletic events throughout the year.

  • Contribute to campus life by participating in university committees as assigned.

  • Teach courses in ESS FRA, if appropriately qualified.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Proven experience in coaching and ability to demonstrate proper techniques unique to the sport

  • CPR and First Aid or a willingness to become certified within three months of hire

  • Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Collegiate or professional playing experience in the sport

  • Experience in recruiting college-level varsity athletes
