Senior Associate/Associate Athletics Director for Business and Administrative Services

The primary purpose of this position is to provide strategic oversight, implementation, and management of the Department of Athletics financial functions, procedures, and policies. This position provides financial and administrative oversight of the business operations, human resources and administrative services units. This position is expected to maintain a focus on continual process improvements to ensure operational efficiencies and sound financial practices. The position serves as a member of the department’s senior executive team and maintains collaborative decision-making authority regarding the organization’s financial health. The CFAO serves as a financial liaison to the University and conducts strategic financial analysis and advises the Director of Athletics about the financial implications of operational, capital, and other strategies for budgets totaling around $35M per annum.

Primary Accountabilities:
1. Responsible for directing strategic matters as they relate to budget management and control. Create financial models to perform budget forecasting and complex financial analysis necessary for departmental decisions and strategic planning, including a variety of external revenue sources, both unrestricted and restricted, such as NCAA and Mid-American Conference distributions, sponsorships, licensing, game guarantees, ticket sales and other event-related revenues, merchandise and concession commissions, gift contributions, etc. Advises the Director of Athletics in strategic financial decisions for an annual budget of approximately $35 million.

Oversees performance of all financial responsibilities for Ohio Athletics’ administration and sport programs, including developing, maintaining, analyzing, and ensuring accountability of budgets, financial planning and projections. Responsible for reporting forecasted results to the University Budget Office and collaborates with the Budget Office in preparation of financial forecasts for the University’s Board of Trustees. Supervises the administration of spending and expenditures for administrative and sport program units.

Represents the department at University-wide CFAO and other financial related meetings scheduled by senior leaders as directed by the Director of Athletics. Serves as primary contact for all financial audits.

Collaborates with and advise Athletics executive staff on all capital construction projects, with particular focus on identifying and directing resource allocations and project budget tracking. Ensures resources are allocated appropriately to address upkeep of equipment and facilities.

Contributes to the development of financial presentations to the Board of Trustees, Ohio University Foundation, Ohio Bobcat Club, the Ohio University Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and other groups (as requested).

Maintains and coordinates accurate and timely financial reporting, including EADA and NCAA financial reports.

Administers internal control systems to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial processes and records and safeguard financial assets of the department. Manages and sets financial policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with institutional control by following all University, NCAA, Conference, and Federal regulations, and embracing the highest standard of integrity and ethical behavior. Works proactively to mitigate internal and external audit risks.

Actively participates as a member of the Athletics Director’s Cabinet and represents the athletics department on committees throughout campus and with external agencies, such as the Mid-American Conference.

2. Supervision of the Human Resources operations and staff personnel functions for the department. Develops policies, programs, and processes. Collaborates with University Human Resources regarding personnel practices and guidelines. Provides guidance to the department’s leadership concerning hiring, employment agreements, onboarding and termination of employees.

3. Supervision of staff members in the Business Operations and Administrative Services areas with an emphasis on goal setting, delegating assignments, monitoring performance, and raising awareness and knowledge of financial management, human resources, and compliance matters. Coordination of training for onboarding of new employees and ensuring changes to University policies and procedures are timely communicated to staff.
