Assistant Director of Athletics Communications

In this position, the selected candidate will be responsible for developing and administering the flow of athletics news to multiple constituents. This includes the timely and accurate reporting of in-game statistics, which are essential for team analysis, media coverage, and historical record-keeping. The selected applicant must also be able to interact and communicate with other administrative staff members, coaches, and student-athletes of the various athletic teams. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role requires effectively conveying statistical insights, game recaps, and key performance highlights. Oberlin College is an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference that sponsors 21 intercollegiate varsity sports.

Responsibilities:

- Serve as a communication source for the college’s athletics teams, including but not limited to preparing pre-game information, post-game news releases, scheduling of student employees, and multimedia content for the college’s various social media platforms and general online presence.
- Keep in-game statistics for selected sports.
- Set up broadcast equipment for live-streaming athletics events.
- Hiring and assigning student employees to help assist with various in-game responsibilities.
- Respond to statistical and other report requirements for the NCAA, NCAC, intercollegiate opponents, and the media, as directed.
- Assist in the publicizing and promotion of athletic events.
- Responsible for daily updating on goyeo.com, the official online home of Oberlin Athletics. (A SIDEARM Sports Site).
- Promote Oberlin Athletics’ teams, student-athletes, staff, and broader campus community across various multimedia platforms including, but not limited to, websites, applications, social media, and publication
- Assist in supporting the brand of the College by ensuring the use of target messaging in promotional materials, including the website, social media, and promotional and recruitment efforts.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics Communications and the Director of Athletics.
- Preference for candidates with photography, videography, graphic design, or content creation skills to help elevate the game day experience through engaging visuals, storytelling, and dynamic in-game coverage.

Required qualifications:


A bachelor’s degree is required. It is preferred that the candidate has excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills and previous experience working in an athletics communications office. The candidate must have the skills to effectively utilize administrative computer systems, such as Google Drive products, PrestoSports, NCAA Live Stats, web and publication design products (Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, etc.), and the Internet.

Salary is commensurate with knowledge and experience. Oberlin offers an excellent benefits package which includes 35 days of PTO.
