Assistant Commissioner for Sport Services

Overview: The NEC (formerly known as Northeast Conference), an NCAA Division I athletic conference headquartered in Bridgewater, New Jersey, is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Commissioner for Sport Services position. Reporting to the Associate Commissioner for Sport Services, the Asst. Commissioner will play a key role in the organization and oversight of NEC Championship events.   

 

Start Date:   This position will commence early February 2026.

 

Work Environment & Location: This position will entail a hybrid work environment; however, the ideal candidate should reside in or be willing to relocate to the greater New York Metropolitan area. The role requires in-person attendance in the NEC office in Bridgewater, NJ for monthly or bi-monthly staff days depending on the time of year as well as pre- and post-championship organization and frequent inventory management. The role also requires travel to NEC Championships for each assigned sport and other meetings or events as needed. Candidates must have access to a vehicle for independent travel to all such events.

 

Primary duties:

 

  • Serve as primary administrator to select sports for regular season and championships, including:

    • Liaison to the coaches’ groups

    • Develop regular season schedules for assigned sports

    • Manage championship handbooks

    • Conduct pre-championship call

    • Manage facilities set-up

    • Arrange hospitality and hotels

    • Confirm officials for championship

·         Manage all aspects of NEC awards programs and vendors

·         Oversee day-to-day responsibilities of select officiating coordinators

·         Supervise league replay and video exchange policies and vendors

·         Assist with basketball tournament operations and staffing

·         Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s Degree required.

·         3+ years of previous championships or event management experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports preferred.

·         Strong written and oral communication skills.

·         Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

·         Excellent time management skills to balance multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.

·         Flexibility is essential for travel, evening and weekend commitments, particularly during championship seasons.

 

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $68,000-$73,000. The NEC also offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and a 403-B retirement plan.
