Assistant/Associate Executive Director

The Midwest Conference (MWC), an NCAA DIII conference comprised of nine core institutions, located in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant/Associate Executive Director. 

The Assistant/Associate Director will have primary responsibility for several critical operations of the MWC, including, but not limited to, sport communications, athletic administration and external relations. 

The individual reports to the Executive Director and is essential to the offering of membership services from the Conference Office:

 

Sport Communications

  • Oversight of MWC sport communications across multiple digital platforms - including the conference website and social media outlets.

  • Production and publication of timely and accurate pre-season polls, weekly news releases, and post-season previews and coverage.

  • Development of special features promoting MWC student-athlete, coach and administrator achievements.

  • Administration of the MWC award programs - including, but not limited to coordination of and publicity for:

    • All-Conference, Academic All-Conference, and Athlete of the Year programs;

    • Performer of the Week program; and,

    • Conference nominations for NCAA, DIIICA and other external organization award programs.

  • Maintenance of league record books and statistical archives.

  • Management of MWC sport schedules to ensure consistency across campus, conference and coordinator platforms.

Athletic Administration

  • Coordinate event operations for and represent the Conference Office at end-of-season league tournaments and championships.

  • Manage and facilitate distribution of tournament and championship awards.

External Relations

  • Negotiate and maintain current corporate vendor agreements and relations.

  • Serve as advisor to the MWC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

  • Represent the MWC within the DIII Commissioners Association Assistants Group, and at NCAA events, as appropriate.

The non-negotiable priorities for the position are those functions listed above. Execution of these duties would be commensurate with the title of Assistant Executive Director. Depending upon the competencies of the successful candidate, there is potential for elevation of title to Associate Executive Director (either upon hire or after one or more years on staff), coupled with an expansion of areas of oversight and/or engagement.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree is required - graduate degree in a sport administration or related field preferred. Minimum 3-5 years in a conference office, collegiate sports communications, athletics administration, or related field also required. 

The individual will possess strong verbal, written and online communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills. The ability to manage multiple responsibilities under pressure, with tight deadlines and minimal direct supervision is essential for success. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment both in-person and remotely is essential, as the individual must be able to establish repertoire with MWC athletic administrators, coaches, and sports information personnel, as well as colleagues within Division IIIl.

Proficiency with the following is required:

  • Athletic website content management software (preferably, SideArm and/or Presto);

  • Statistical software (NCAA LiveStats, Presto Stats, StatCrew, etc.);

  • Google Workspace;

  • Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign), Canva and Zoom; and,

  • Social media platforms.

A valid driver’s license is required.

  • Salary and title commensurate with experience (designation of Associate Executive Director will assume additional duties)

  • Travel required for staff/conference meetings and end-of-season tournaments and championships
