Assistant Coach, Softball
Position Summary:
This is a full-time, twelve month position that assists the head coach in the planning, practice and game scheduling, and coaching of the varsity softball team while adhering to Pennsylvania State Athletic Association (PSAC) and NCAA regulations. In addition, this position is responsible for duties and the direct of oversight the developmental team, including but not limited to: game scheduling, game management, practice, and recruiting. Must be able to support and promote the University's Mission. Instruction consists of 51% of the position time, while the other 49% will be dedicated to other essential functions of the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists with all on- and off-field softball instruction; evaluates players while providing instruction.
2. Evaluates prospective student-athletes athletically and academically.
3. Counsels team members in academics, accountability and personal matters. Consults with appropriate personnel for resolution of issues as required.
4. Establishes prospect's NCAA eligibility in concert with athletic department's compliance officer.
5. Trains, strengthens, and develops all student-athletes; in compliance with all NCAA Division II and PSAC rules and regulations.
6. Assists with scouting and game-day strategies.
7. Assists with the operation and instruction of camps and clinics.
8. Coordinates team and recruiting travel and break related logistics.
9. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope and responsibility and requirements of the position.
Required Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree; working knowledge of PSAC and NCAA regulations.
Experience: Must have prior coaching or playing experience, preferably at the collegiate-level, and the ability to recruit to a highly selective institution. Must have working knowledge of NCAA rules as well as an understanding of the philosophy behind them.
Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; technical knowledge of softball skills and strategy combined with the ability to effectively teach and coach them; the ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes; a willingness and ability to actively recruit qualified prospective student-athletes to the University; strong administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting; ability to work independently and to work under pressure.
Licenses and Certifications: A valid driver's license in good standing. Per Gannon's Institutional Policy Manual there can be no suspensions on the Motor Vehicle Record for 5 years prior to being hired.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Strength and conditioning certification.
