The Colby College Department of Athletics seeks an assistant men’s and women’s cross country coach beginning August 11, 2025 and ending June 30, 2026. The assistant men’s and women’s cross country coach’s responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all duties involved in running a competitive Division III cross country program. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Position Qualifications
On-site coaching in races and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices
Prepare film breakdown and analysis, and present analysis to team members
Plan and prepare for races
Provide support and encouragement to student athletes, including academic counseling and advising.
Monitor academic progress of athletes
Recruit and retain talented athletes successfully
Research academic and athletic credentials
Build relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone calls, and one-on-one meetings
Organize and implement recruit visits
Understand NCAA rules, compliance, and laws
Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes
Serve as an effective role model for college-age students
Assist with day to day operations of the program
Provide effective communication to the head coach
Collaborate effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members
Assist with the coordination of team travel
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
Ability to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting in and out of state
Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’ degree or equivalent in education and experience
Previous experience coaching and/or competing at the collegiate level is highly desirable

While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the office space as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged personal computer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor.
An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focus quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasks as well.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.
Operates on courts, gymnasium, and training rooms. General campus environment. Several weeks of domestic travel and frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year.
