Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Business Operations/CFO position.  Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).  

The Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Business Operations/CFO is responsible for the planning, monitoring, and managing of the Division’s long-term and daily financial activities.  This role serves as the Division’s Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for managing the Division’s internal financial processes in tandem with the University’s budgeting, forecasting, and year-end close processes, while ensuring that the Division is optimally utilizing the university’s financial system to maximize transparency for analysis, planning and financial reporting, with a strategic focus on gender equity and student-athlete welfare.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience preferably in business, finance, or accounting.

  • Background in budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, and other business processes as well as experience in ensuring operational efficiencies and maintaining systems of internal controls.

Job Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) and ability to effectively engage internal and external constituents.

  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong management, decision-making, and prioritizing skills.

  • Ability to supervise, develop and evaluate personnel required; prior experience supervising staff preferred.

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting systems. Workday experience is preferred.

  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.

  • Ability to work with a diverse population and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Knowledge of NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations, helpful.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).
