Boise State University invites interested applicants for the position of Head Spirit Squad Coach. This position will be responsible for recruiting, developing, directing, teaching cheer and dance techniques/routines, choreographing, scheduling, monitoring academic progress, budget management, fundraising, equipment selection, in addition to assisting the athletics marketing department’s community relations efforts. These duties includes conducting practices, instructing athletes in technique, promoting safety, and ensuring the team's success while also fostering a positive and inclusive environment. This position will require a strong, working knowledge and understanding of AACCA, NCAA, Conference and Institutional rules and regulations.
Essential Functions:
Lead all aspects of the Boise State Spirit Squad consisting of the cheer, dance, and mascot programs.
Ensure emphasis on safety and compliance with AACAA, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations.
Manage and schedule appearance requests for the cheer, dance, and mascot programs in the athletics department, University, community and private events to promote the program.
Coordinate practices, conditioning, participation and performances at all home football games, basketball games, additional athletic events, community events and other events as requested.
Choreograph, teach and practice various routines on a daily basis to prepare for games and performances.
Instruct team members in the proper techniques for fundamentals of cheer and dance.
Ensure participants are dedicated to their academics and meet University standards for academic success.
Recruit cheer and dance team members who meet university academic standards, perform at a high level and can contribute to improving the programs.
Collaborate regularly with the marching band and marketing department for gameday entertainment.
Maintain uniforms, costumes and health standards for the members while at practice and performance in games/events.
Attend selected community events to help promote Boise State Athletics.
This position must be able to work standard business hours, weekends, evenings and possible holidays with travel to away athletic events when needed.
Position will be required to be at all home and away football games, all home men’s basketball games, and additional Olympic sports games/events.
Position will be required to research, grow and attend community events, in conjunction with the Athletics Marketing Team.
May perform other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and background in collegiate/professional sports or equivalent.
American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administration (AACCA) certification or completed within one month of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree.
• At least two (2) years of coaching experience.
• At least two (2) years of experience as a cheerleader or dancer at the collegiate level.
• First Aid and CPR certification or completed within one month of hire.
• At least two (2) years of experience following areas:
Evaluating and comparing athletic talent for potential growth and development of team members
Planning, organizing and executing schedule and travel arrangements
Fundraising money
